UNIVERSAL CITY, California – March 11, 2010 — NBC’s top-rated summer show “America’s Got Talent,” will tape shows in front of a live audience in cities across the country beginning this Friday, March 12, and Saturday, March 13, in Los Angeles. After Los Angeles, the #1 talent competition series will travel to Portland, Dallas, Orlando, New York and Chicago through March and April.

Host Nick Cannon, returning judges Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan as well as this season’s new judge, comedian Howie Mandel, will be at each taping.

“America’s Got Talent,” NBC’s top rated summer series from “American Idol” producers FremantleMedia North America and Simon Cowell’s SYCO Television, returns for a fifth season this summer with a two-hour premiere on Tuesday, June 1 (8-10 p.m. ET) followed by a Wednesday edition debuting June 2 (9-10 p.m. ET).

With the talent search open to acts of all ages, “America’s Got Talent” has brought the variety format back to the forefront of American culture by showcasing performers from across the country. The series is a true celebration of the American spirit, featuring a colorful array of hopeful stars, including singers, dancers, comedians, contortionists, impressionists, jugglers, magicians and ventriloquists, all vying for their chance to strut and perform on stage hoping to win America’s hearts — and the $1 million prize.

Singing chicken farmer Kevin Skinner was crowned the winner of season four and the victory moved the humble country singer to tears in front of the live nationwide audience. Skinner, who also took home the show’s $1 million prize, headlined the “America’s Got Talent Live,” show hosted by Jerry Springer at the Planet Hollywood Casino in Las Vegas this past October.

Carrie Underwood winner of season four of American Idol has announced dates for her “Play On” Tour that kicks off March 11 in Reading, Pennsylvania. Since winning Idol she has become a multi-platinum selling recording artist, a multiple Grammy Award winner, was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, is a three-time Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Female Vocalist winner, and the current ACM Entertainer of the year.

Her debut album, Some Hearts, was certified seven times platinum, and is the fastest selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history. It is also the best-selling solo female debut album in country music history. Some Hearts yielded three number one hits on the country charts in the United States: “Jesus, Take the Wheel”, “Wasted” and “Before He Cheats”, her biggest hit to date. Some Hearts was recently titled the Top Country Album of the Decade.

Her third album, Play On, was released on November 3, 2009. It has so far sold over 1 million copies since its release. Her first single off the album, “Cowboy Casanova”, was released to country radio on September 14, 2009. The single peaked at number one on the country charts, which made Underwood the artist with the most top 10s on the country chart among solo women of the decade, followed by Faith Hill and Martina McBride each with 9. In November 2009, Underwood attained total domestic album sales of 11 million and became the highest-selling American Idol artist in the United States.
